Our First Ever Scrub Superstar of the Month
Here at Uniform Advantage, we think that all of our customers are extraordinary individuals. When you’re in scrubs, you work long hours and go above and beyond for your patients, which is why we started this program. We’d like to show our appreciation and give recognition to the caregivers who put in the extra mile for the sake of their patients. Our first ever Scrub Superstar of the Month is…

What is your current position?
I am a float nurse so I work in many different areas of the hospital. I specialize in cardiac care and I work in a hospital in the greater Atlanta area. I’m sort of a jack of all trades so to speak.
Why did you choose this particular career?
I have always been a people person so naturally I wanted to have a career where I was around people. My nickname on the softball field was “PR” because I would always make friends with members of the opposing team. Also, my mother definitely inspired me to go into nursing. She is a very loving, social and upbeat woman who always put others before herself. She wanted to make sure that people were always okay and I admire that so much. Another big part of why I became a nurse is my love for science. I’ve always been fascinated by the human body and anatomy, plus I was never squeamish. I wanted a career that was fulfilling and satisfying. For me, nursing perfectly joins my desire to help people with my love for science.
What do you love about your career?
I love that I do something different almost every day. My job is full of diversity, whether it be from meeting new people throughout the hospital or helping patients with different conditions, it always stays interesting!
What is one of your favorite on-the-job memories?
That’s a tough one, there’s so many memorable things that I’ve experienced! One particular “A-ha” moment helped me climb up another stair in my career. We had a middle-aged patient who had never really been to the hospital before. I gave the patient an evaluation and quickly afterwards, the doctor on staff asked me what I suggest that we order for this patient. I went on to tell the doctor everything I felt the patient needed, from different tests to medications. Without hesitation the doctor just said “Okay done” and proceeded to order everything I had suggested (while looking into the patient’s chart of course!) I felt proud and confident in my ability as a nurse. After this, I viewed myself at a higher level than ever before. Actually, this patient reached out to me a few days later thanking me for such caring attention and excellent medical care. Knowing that I made a difference in his care was the cherry on top.
What is your favorite on-the-job snack to keep your energy up?
I love Lara Bars. They’re so good and they keep me alert and ready throughout my entire shift. My two favorite flavors are Key Lime and Cherry Pie. I always have one in my pocket.
What do you do to relax after a long shift at the hospital?
After a long shift, I love to workout and create new meals but I don’t truly “un-wind” until my day off. I take that time to I sleep in and enjoy my morning coffee. My days off are my time to catch up with my blog and emails, it’s almost therapeutic. I also love to read inspiring, self-help books for leisure.
Tell us what you do outside of work.
I have a blog called ‘yourheartismine’. This title pretty much sums up why I do what I do. I feel for my patients, as if their heart is mine. I treat all of my patients as if they are my own family. Writing for my blog gives me a chance to share my story and hopefully inspire others the way I’m always being inspired just by going to work.
Finally, what feature is most important to you while choosing your scrubs?
Since I can wear any color I choose, I can essentially pick any pair of scrubs so it’s important that they’re the right ones. Personally, I look for scrubs that are flattering and comfortable. I want to look good and feel good during my shift, which helps me feel confident and reach my potential at work.
Thank you Kelsey for sharing your special experiences with us! We appreciate everything you do for others and the impact you’ve made on your patients. Enjoy your new scrubs!
