  • Do: Look for dark wide-leg pants, they will slenderizes thighs while creating a longer and slimmer silhouette
  • Do: Opt for boat neck tops under a hip-length jacket, drawing attention to the open neckline broadens the shoulders to offset fuller hips and evens out lower body proportions

UA Fights Back…with Baked Goods!

This year, Uniform Advantage, as well as other UA Brands, including Wild Mint Shop, Neighborhoodies, & Chef Uniforms, will be participating in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life Event. The event will take place on April 11 @6:30PM to April 12 @9AM!

Relay For Life is an organized, overnight community fundraising walk for ACS, where teams of people camp out at a local school or park and take turns walking around a track or path. Because, cancer never sleeps, each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. At the event we raise funds, celebrate survivors, remember loved ones lost, and learn more about how to fight back against cancer.

Over the course of several weeks, not only will employees at the corporate office sign up to walk during the Relay 4 Life event, we will also host multiple fundraising events to raise money and awareness as we fight back against cancer.

Our first event sure was sweet! It left everyone in the office energized, chatty, and full! You guessed it…a BAKE SALE! Thanks to all the bakers who brought in delightful treats such as almond pound cake, oatmeal cookies, banana nut muffins…etc! We were full throughout the day with plenty of leftovers. So not to forget those that donated, we thank everyone else for helping us get closer to our fundraising goal by indulging in a little or a lot of sweetness!

If you would like to donate on behalf of our UA team and fight back against cancer, please visit our site to learn more. http://main.acsevents.org/goto/UAscrubs

Uniform Advantage secures Exclusivity for Koi’s and Med Couture’s 2 Newest Spring Colors

Capture

Uniform Advantage secures early exclusives for Koi’s and Med Couture’s 2 newest colors in their spring collection. For additional information about Koi and Med Couture Scrubs and the different styles and colors offered, please visit www.UniformAdvantage.com.

Koi and Med Couture have been part of Uniform Advantage’s (UA) family for 5 and 6 years respectively and have given UA exclusivity for their 2 newest colors this spring. Koi will be featuring Plum and Grape colors and Med Couture will be launching Blush and Marine Blue colors. UA has them exclusively until August 2014 and these are currently displayed in Uniform Advantage’s Spring 2014 catalog.

Koi’s Inspiration

Koi is known for their trendy and fashionable designs and their two newest colors, Plum and Grape, reflect just that. The colors were chosen for their beautiful characteristics and glamorous appeal. Grape is a deep, rich, elegant color. Plum is a bright color with a hint of fuchsia that was inspired by Koi’s President, Kathy Peterson’s trip to India. Both colors are flattering for all complexions. Their Katelyn and Naomi tops and Lindsey pants will be available at UA in these exclusive colors. Also new to UA, is their Kathryn Wild Thing print top. It’s one of their favorites of the season. It incorporates two of the designer’s favorite things: animal prints and shades of purple.

Med Couture’s Inspiration

Med Couture’s fabrics are stretchy and very comfortable and provide a great fit for our medical professionals for their long work days.  The colors for Spring consist of a combination of vibrant shades of Pink and Turquoise. Blush is a medium bright tone of Pink and contrasts nicely with Marine Blue, a colorful shade of Turquoise. These are very trendy and wearable colors for the season and these shades were created as similar ones have done very well in the past for both Med Couture and UA. The coordinating prints are equally tasteful and appealing to all nurses, young and mature.

What new colors would you like to see come to UA? Are there some colors that you just can’t live without!?

3 Timeless Styles for Your New Year’s SCRUBsolution

Let’s start with the Foundation
Nothing can beat the classic look and feel of a Butter-Soft Stretch scrub top. The best part about a classic scrub top is that it now has several cuts and styles that fit each and every body type. You don’t have to feel uncomfortable with unflattering angles. The Butter-Soft Stretch scrub tops collection has empire waists, v-necks, scallop necks, and even trendy ¾ sleeves. These Uniform Advantage scrub tops come in several classic colors while offering you the resilient, soft and durable fabric with stretch and flexibility you need for your day-to-day tasks.

Add a layer or two

After, you have your foundation down, use the weather outside as an excuse to layer up with a Med Couture scrubs warm-up jacket. This particular jacket has a round neck and button front closure with two patch pockets. I love their contrast stitching and logos; it adds an edgy touch to a traditional jacket. If you don’t like to wear things over your scrubs, you can always opt for a Peaches long sleeve tee as an under-the-scrub layer.

From top to bottom

An outfit isn’t complete without pants that are both dependable and fashionable. Koi Stretch Skinny Lindsey pants features what you love about the Koi brand in a brand new slim profile pant with stretch. You know that sounds amazing for those 12+ hour shifts! It has an adjustable drawstring waist, flower printed facing and side slits at the pant hem. It also gives you plenty of storage with a total of 8 pockets! This style comes in only 4 colors, but trust me you’ll want all of them.

Now, that we have a template for a New Year’s SCRUBsolution we can throw in some scrub prints, shoes, and accessories to add personality. Leave us a comment and let us know what you would put together to create your look!

A Uniform Advantage

Uniforms today have become an essential tool in many professional fields, providing a sense of solidarity and authority in the workplace. They differentiate the patients from the employees and help the workplace maintain its feel of organization and cleanliness. In fact, uniforms have a long history dating back to early Roman history. By encouraging the practice of wearing uniforms, Roman leaders could easily identify their forces from those of the enemy or civilians. I think this also makes sense today. By having staff wear medical uniforms, they will provide a distinction to both patients and co-workers, allowing for a more identifiable means for efficient communication.

Having uniforms in the workplace can create a real sense of professionalism and set a good example for patients.  They stimulate a sense of pride in being part of the group, & allow the staff to focus on their job, instead of fashion. Uniforms and scrubs help to keep the workplace staff standardized and will show that they are all working towards a common purpose. Uniforms are practical too.  They will not only save the staff money on buying expensive work clothes, but also save them time in deciding what to wear for the work day.

What is it that medical uniforms provide that makes them so desirable? For the patient it may mean that they are being treated with a sense of importance, or knowing that they are going to get special attention.  For staff it may mean a better image or a sense of a team environment. After all, we know from experience in our own daily lives that uniforms provide an image for us.  This image is very important and the perception of this image often results in either profits or losses to the organization. Wearing nursing uniforms show patients a professional and organized staff that projects a sense of reliability and confidence; and that will stay with them long after they have gone.

What is your opinion about this?  Do you enjoy wearing uniforms and scrubs? Does a uniform make you feel better about your job or worse about it? What do you think of the medical scrubs today? Does it make sense to have everyone dress exactly the same?  Or would you prefer a uniform color scheme that allows for a mix, but still shows uniformity.  We look forward to your comments.

Caring for your New Medical Scrubs

Tired of your scrubs fading and just looking dingy? It may be the type of scrubs you are buying or it may be the style in which you are washing them. To ensure a great fit and long lasting uniform, we recommend that you be selective in the quality of the fabrics as well as the style in which you launder them, so your medical scrubs last as long as possible.

We recommend that you invest your money in some high quality medical uniforms, like UA Scrubs, Butter Soft Scrubs, Landau Scrubs, Cherokee Uniforms, or Dickies Medical Scrubs. Not only are they more comfortable and stylish, but are made with some of the best fabrics in the marketplace today.

Washing your Nursing Uniforms:

Washing with care is the key to long lasting garments, so it is not recommended to use harsh or cheap detergents, because the fabric may not hold up over time. It is best to use a good quality detergent to clean your medical uniforms. It is also recommended to wash them separately from regular laundry to keep the spreading of germs to your non work clothes down to a minimum.

Rinsing your scrubs in cold is recommended to loosen any large deposits of material such as dirt, blood, or anything else that may linger in the wash cycle and make a mess of the water. Once you are finished rinsing, the garments should be then washed in hot water for about 10 minutes or so to kill bacteria as well as micro organisms. After washing, tumble dry your clothes to kill off additional germs.

If your medical uniform has an odor, simply use some vinegar. I would say ¼ to ½ cup is fine. And it is safe for the fabric. You can even use a color brightener or white wash to bring back the brilliance of the fabric, but do not use bleach because products with bleach may damage your fabric over time.

A warning here: High heat in washing and tumble drying will help to sanitize your hospital uniforms, but may also cause fading, shrinkage, and fabric loss over time. Some folks have opted to wash their medical scrubs in cold water and line dry. The choice is up to you and only you can determine what germs you may have come in contact with. Happy washing!

Your comments are important to us, so please let us know of any secrets you have come across to get your medical scrubs clean, bright, and germ free. We look forward to posting your comments.
