Interview with Runner-up, Megan Schwartz!

MeganSchwartz

Why do I deserve to win the iPad2?

I am a full time student working on my bachelor of science in Animal Science/ Pre-Vet. I also work part-time at a local veterinary clinic. I would like the iPad2 as a reward for all my hard work.

1.  How did you go about getting all of your votes? What did you do that helped the most (Facebook, Emails, etc)?

I posted the link to vote for me on my Facebook as well as several of my other friends and family. I also posted my link around campus (since I am a college student). I was also able to get a couple of my class lists which had emails on it. The thing that helped me the most was being able to access my class lists.

2. What brand of uniform do you enjoy wearing most at work?

My favorite brand is Happy Scrubs. The prints are really cute and most of them are animal related which fits my job perfectly.
3. What is your favorite thing about the veterinary industry/what made you want to pursue this?

My favorite thing about the veterinary industry is just getting to interact with the animals. Animals are my passion and that pushed me to work toward becoming a veterinarian.

4.  What advice would you give to someone who wants to go into veterinary field?

The advice I would give to anyone who wants to go into the veterinary field, is to go shadow, internship, or work at  a vet clinic first. There are quite a few situations where you think you might be able to handle but until you are actually been there you will never know.

1,004 votes!

1.              How does it feel to win the Uniform Advantage iPad2 contest?

I have never won anything before and this has just made an amazing start to a New Year for me.  I am extremely excited and delighted to have won the iPad2 contest.

2.              How did you go about getting all of your votes? What did you do that helped the most (Facebook, Emails, etc)?

As a current student at Walden University, an employee with Greenville Hospital System, and a Clinical Instructor with Greenville Technical College I was able to email all of my coworkers and students and ask for their support.  I additionally requested help on Facebook and used personal email addresses as well to request support.

3.       Why did you want to become an educator/clinical instructor?

I have a passion for teaching and find it fulfilling to be a part of aiding people in achieving their personal goals. I feel the greatest contribution that I might be able to make to society would be to contribute towards bringing increasingly innovative teaching methodologies into the classrooms and workplace. I find the interpersonal interaction with individuals to be overwhelmingly and intrinsically rewarding.

4.              What brand and style of uniform do you enjoy wearing most?

I wear a variety of scrubs but my favorites so far are Jockey and Butter Soft.

 5.     Is there any one thing you would have done differently in starting your career in this industry?

No.  I love my career as a nurse and working as a Mother/Baby postpartum nurse.  I also like the path that I am taking to obtain a Master of Science in Nursing as well as a PHd.  I had the opportunity to enjoy small breaks between many successes.

6.   What advice would you give to someone who wants to go into the medical field?

The medical field is a large arena to begin a career in and will be a life-changing journey.  As you go into your experience it may be overwhelming but relax and relish in the new learning experience that will be well worth the journey.  The medical field is a rewarding career and perseverance and perspective are key to a successful future.

CONGRATULATIONS again, Jennifer and thank you to ALL of our participants!

And The Winner Is….

We want to congratulate Jennifer Mitchell from Greenville Memorial Hospital in South Carolina for winning Uniform Advantage’s first ever contest for an iPad2!

UAIPADContest

In order to win the iPad2, contestants had to tell us why they deserved to win this fantastic prize this holiday season.  We then created voting pages for each contestant so that they could get the word out to their friends, family, and co-workers to vote for them to win the iPad2.  Yesterday we closed the voting booths and Jennifer Mitchell had the most votes with a grand total of 1,004.

We want to thank everyone who participated in this contest.  Check our Uniform Advantage blog and Facebook pages regularly for future exciting contests and promotions!  You can read her entry below and we hope you enjoy your new iPad2, Jennifer!

“I deserve to win an iPad2 to aid me as an educator as well as a clinical instructor to implement my teaching philosophy.  My teaching philosophy is education is a tool to assist students to make informed decisions, generate knowledgeable ideas, and develop skills to function highly in their scope of practice.  Information should be provided in a constructive curriculum to foster and motivate students to learn in a permanent long-lasting way. All students should be given an equal learning opportunity to develop skills, critical thinking process, and problem solving proficiencies in a nurturing environment.

As an educator it is important to possess the ability to reach students from varies backgrounds, beliefs and values in a professional manner and promotes an atmosphere of learning diversity.    Education should be a thought provoking experience that encourages students to be active learners. Lastly, teaching should inspire students to discover new pathways and have a desire to seek continual learning and growth opportunities in their area of study.  Having an iPad will let me educate in new creative ways as well as be mobile with my educational techniques.”
